Basic Description:
This is a primer in the basics behind transcribing music from 15th- or 16th-century sources into modern notation for performance. The class covers the principles of simple symbols, time signatures, imperfection, alteration and ligatures for white mensural notation, and gives an easy-to-use notation and rhythm guide for French and Italian lute tablature. A series of period sources are included, as well as an answers section to compare the student's new transcriptions against.
